Quint Thurman is in his fourth year as president of the University of the Southwest. Before moving to Hobbs, Dr. Thurman served as interim president of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and also as Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. He previously has taught classes at Texas State University, Wichita State University, and Washington State University. Over a 30-year academic career he has published 7 books and taught more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Dr. Thurman’s Ph.D. is from the University of Massachusetts. He also has a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, he met his wife Caryn, who now serves as the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Hobbs.
