The Head Start Teacher is responsible for overseeing the planning, organizing and implementation of educational activities in the classroom, consistent with Head Start Performance Standards; providing a learning environment which is interesting, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate thus encouraging each child to reach their maximum potential, and grow into responsible adults. The Head Start Teacher also works with and supports Head Start families in developing the growth and cognitive abilities of their children, assuring that the educational, health and social services needs of individual children and their families are met. The Teacher also works with content area coordinators to assure planning, organization, implementation and follow-through with comprehensive services. Instructional lead responsibilities include individual responsibilities and leading team members by organizing work and providing mentoring and technical advice to team members. Will train, instruct, and assist in the evaluation of Teacher Assistant and other instructional staff. Will be responsible for all oversight of parent volunteers in the classroom.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate or associate degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.
  • Baccalaureate or associate degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.
  • An associate degree in early childhood education or an associate degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children
  • Baccalaureate degree and has been admitted into the Teach for America program, passed a rigorous Early Childhood content exam, such as the Praxis II, participated in a Teach for America summer training institute that includes teaching preschool children, and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach for America’s professional staff.

Salary – This is an Non-Exempt position $19.46-$24.32/hourly depending on qualifications (related experience/yrs, education, training, etc.)
